In 1187 the Viking age settlement of Sigtuna was raided by the Finnic pagans of the Karelian tribe. It is thought to have been an act of revenge for the Catholic crusades in a less bloody raid, the Bone Machine sons of Karella stormed the brewery of Brew York to create a modern red sour ale with typical Finnic flavours of juniper and lingonberry. For a further Finnic twist the ale has been dry hopped with Pekko so named after Karelian protector of barley and brewing
