Every now and again you get a belter of a batch of hops and can’t do anything but fill yer boots with a hazy banger to show it off to all yer mates. Cascade, albeit regarded by the initiated as now pedestrian in the hop world, is often left behind in the space race for the juiciest IPA out there. Frankly that’s a travesty. Here’s what Cascade can do.
Often prized for and associated with West Coast IPA’s and old school American Pale Ales, Cascade is all about brightness, lemony citrus rind and notes of complimentary herbal and floral character to back that up. In our experience all hops are subject to not only their variety but their terroir. We’ve been knocked out by the Cascade we’ve been getting from our friends at Crosby Hops / Loughrans Family Malt - particularly those hailing from Oregon. We made the call to brew a beer to let the Cascade we’d been working with shine and give it a New England treatment instead to show how special this is. That is a creamy fluffy New England base, London Ale III and 18g/L in a pale ale. Because we’re nuts.
Initial nose is floral, bright, lemon, rosewater, cedar and orange zest. Body is round, lightly sweet and oozes orange juice, pine, light notes of grapefruit and a bag full of floral to beat the band.
This is a hazy, juicy pale, but not as you know it.
