As DNA analysis becomes more available it is indicating that Red Foxwhelp and Old Foxwhelp are one and the same. This luminescent red apple is a tart monster with a powerful apple aroma with that hint of strawberry at the end. Cuckhorn Farm has a row of Foxwhelps in an old orchard that are established and very biennial. This is a single varietal from those trees.
Rich, deep gold colour with a very fruity apple sauce aroma in the mid range and hints of strawberry at the end. Very tart in the taste but 18 months has softened and plumped the cider out a bit. It remains sour and vibrant in the mouth.
Food pairing recommendations - Probably a tricky one to pair, either best on it’s own, or used in a similar way to rhubarb, for example with a very fatty & creamy dish!
