Chevallier was the first ever selected landrace for malting and it reigned supreme for over 100 years as the dominant barley variety in England from 1820 to 1920.
It’s a bit of a beast when it comes to malt flavour. We were able to get some that @crispmaltings had killed to a slightly higher colour than usual, giving us a Chevallier Vienna malt that we could use as 100% of the grist for this beer.
Loads of super dark brown rye bread aromas along with some fruity notes reminiscent of best bitter (it looks like one too). A proper Sunday roast beer. There’s a decent amount of body left in the beer and a good bitterness to balance the sweetness that comes with that.
