Our take on a modern Belgian Pale Ale is Always Half Strange, using a traditional Belgian base pale ale and throwing in a complimenting mix of American hop varieties. Using a base of Pilsner malt, Cara Malt, Wheat and some Irish Flaked Oats this one gets our heavily hopped whirlpool treatment of El Dorado in this case before being fermented on our house Belgian yeast. We then dry hop in two stages with Hallertau Blanc, BRU-1 and Azacca up to 16g/L as is our modus operandi around here.
The result is that meeting of old world and new with Hallertau Blanc giving a wine like but continental hoppy base for BRU-1 to push its bubblegum on top and Azacca to flesh out the whole affair with ripe pineapple and a touch of dank. Lightly hazy from heavy hopping, this beer finished refreshingly dry while remaining bright, light and pretty refreshing with a pretty heavy nose of all things esters and hops.
